Welby Spelling Bee

We are excited to announce that the Welby Spelling Bee will be held on January 31st at 1:30 and is open to 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students who are interested in participating.

Mrs. Thorp will be hosting some after school practice sessions on January 14, 21, and 28 from 3:00 - 3:45. Students attending practice need to be picked up promptly at 3:45. Students will also get practice spelling sheets to take home.

Winners of the Welby Spelling Bee will qualify for the written portion of the District Spelling Bee on February 3rd!

If your student is participating in the Spelling Bee you are welcome to come support them on January 31st.

Science Fair

The Welby Science Fair is coming up soon! More information will be going home with students, but here are some important things to know ahead of time.

Winners of the Welby Science Fair will move on to the District Science Fair taking place on March 12th!

The best way to qualify for the District Science Fair is to make sure your student follows the scientific process, and has a deep understanding of their project.

Things to include are:

  • Hypothesis
  • Design and Test an Experiment (Methods)
  • Analyse Data

Last year Welby dominated the District Science Fair and we hope to do it again!

Upcoming Assessments

Assessment season is upon us! Over the next few months Welby students will be taking a number of assessments that help their teachers understand where they are at this point in the year and what next steps to take before the end of the year.

The best way to prepare your student is by making sure they have a good night’s sleep, have something for breakfast at home or at school, and have them practice some fundamental skills like spelling, adding, and subtracting.

For more information about assessments under the “Assessments” section of our “Academics” page. This provides a quick description of each assessment and links to learn more.

Breakfast Reminder:

Breakfast is available for students every day from 7:35 - 7:50. Make sure you are here on time if you plan to eat breakfast with us!

Attendance Matters Logo

Every day matters in Mapleton! Good attendance plays a crucial role in a student’s educational journey, serving as a key predictor of academic achievement and social development. In Mapleton, it's our goal to have students attend school at least 95% of the time – missing no more than nine days a year for any reason. Click here to learn more about attendance, our district values, and our new Board of Education policies for this year.
