Centers of Excellence Award - Welby Community School

Welby has been named a Colorado Centers of Excellence school by the Colorado Department of Education. This incredible honor was awarded to just 18 schools across the state this year. The Centers of Excellence award celebrates schools serving a high percentage of at-risk students that are also achieving outstanding academic growth over time.

This achievement reflects the dedication, creativity, and commitment of Welby’s staff, students, and families. Their work to support every learner and ensure strong academic progress truly stands out.

We’re so proud of our Welby Hawks and the example they set for what’s possible when a school community comes together around student success.

Student Voices from Welby Community School of the Arts

High expectations and a strong sense of community define learning at Welby Community School of the Arts.

Welby is a PK–6 school where strong academics, creativity, and character go hand in hand. As part of the EL Education network, students are “crew, not passengers,” taking ownership of their learning through hands-on projects, collaboration, and real-world connections. The arts are woven into daily instruction, helping students build confidence, express ideas, and deepen understanding in a supportive, inclusive environment.

Updates from Principal Dickson

Dear Welby Families,

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your incredible generosity and participation in our recent school events! Together, through the Fun Run, Book Fair, and Halloween Dance, our community raised nearly $6,000—a tremendous accomplishment that shows the power of what we can do when we come together for our students.

We’re also so grateful to everyone who donated candy for Trunk or Treat and helped make it such a joyful and festive event for our students. Your contributions created lasting memories and helped bring our community even closer together.

The funds raised will directly support student activities that make Welby such a special place to learn and grow—including field trips, Field Day, our Winter and Spring Concerts at the MAC, the Winter Carnival, and our Thanksgiving Family Lunch. These experiences enrich learning, build belonging, and celebrate the creativity and spirit of our students.

Thank you for always showing up for our Hawks—with your time, your donations, and your positive energy. We are truly grateful for your partnership and for making Welby a vibrant, joyful community where every student can thrive.

With gratitude,
Mrs. Danielle Dickson
Principal, Welby Community School of the Arts
